What better way to have the chance to test drive the 2017 Mazda6 GT for the week when you will be in beautiful Palm Springs! The Machine Gray Metallic and the luxury, sleek look will have people turning heads because you would not think for a second this would be a standard family vehicle. It really has that clean, fresh classy look. The front grill has a subtle lit trim as all the lighting around the car is LED. Even the inside lighting. This car was rolling on 19" all season tires and soft tinted charcoal rims. Thank goodness, because it was about 109 degrees and the floor was hot! The amenities you get in this car is exactly what you will get in a luxury car. I can first point out immediately with the Mazda6, I am in for a treat when it comes to the comfort of safety. I may say comfort a lot for this blog post because that is what we've had driving around in the Mazda6. Once I sit in the driver's seat, I am in a throne of a head up display to allow me to know what's going on and around me. Instead of trying to wait for a speed limit sign, a stop sign, a car coming up from behind you and switching lanes, lane departure warning, etc., this gives you a great dash in a single glance. I will say that I wish the head up display was a bit more view friendly for us shorter in height. You will really have to peek in there to see the display. The blind spot detection, smart city brake support, lane keep assist just ensures you get that double check when your not. You side mirrors light up orange if you attempt to switch lanes when a car is in you blind spot so you aren't having anxiety looking over your shoulder 5 times before you go. If you drift a bit out of lane, the car feels like its putting you back in place, and it just feels like you are in good hands. If you are an over protective parent when it comes to driving, this would be a great vehicle knowing your teen has all the safety features.
When we were able to drive through the amazing scenery in the heat, the AC was life. We had our own settings as driver and passenger and vents in the back as well. We even opened the sunroof to peek at the top of the palm trees. The navigation was so very helpful because it was easy to get from one place to another. The graphics was so clear when it came to visuals of where you are and the direction you are in and the close up 3D when you are close to your destination. My favorite new feature is the arrow next to the destination flag on whether it will be on your right or left side. The screen also displays the camera when in reverse so you can also get a clear view of guidance. The dash and console area has a signature set up. The radio buttons are not by the typical climate buttons, but by the navigation wheel. The cupholders were a bit far back on the console. You have to twist a bit back to grab your cup.
It was a nice drive back home to San Diego with a 40+ degrees drop along with some mist or light drizzle and gloom. I was able to put on my heated seats (which by the way helps with my sore back) and so was everyone else. Yes, the backseats too! I really enjoyed the heated steering wheel when I was driving on my way to work in the early AM. This car really puts you in a calm state. Yes, sip on that coffee on that morning drive! You get the sports mode option in case you want that extra boost of power which is nice because you can also get that sporty feel of your drive. The fuel seemed a tad bit better than average on the usage, but you do get 35 highway and 27 miles in the city which is really not bad at all!
Overall, the price you pay (MSRP: $34,530) with all of these amazing features is a deal and worth the investment. I mean, the Mazda6 has been awarded with Popular Mechanics 2017 Automotive Excellence awards.
If you haven't had the chance to drive a Mazda6, I highly recommend you visit a local dealership and take it for a drive. If you have had the chance to drive one or maybe you own one, would love to know your thoughts!
Just thought I'd throw in our vlogs where we were able to drive the fabulous 2017 Mazda6 GT:
